Rooted in Bhadohi.
Designed for Vancouver.
The Rug Atelier is a Vancouver-based custom rug studio with direct manufacturing in Bhadohi — the city that has supplied the world's finest hand-knotted carpets for generations. We exist to give designers unmediated access to that craft.
A Studio Built
for Designers.
We founded The Rug Atelier on a simple premise: interior designers and architects in Vancouver deserve a rug partner who can actually execute — not just show samples. Our manufacturing base in Bhadohi gives us access to every major weaving technique: Persian hand-knotted, Tibetan cut-and-loop, Moroccan low-pile, Dhurrie flat-weave, Kilim, Sumac, and Handloom — all available on a custom brief.
We work with an extensive range of natural and responsible fibres — Afghan handspun wool from the Hindu Kush, New Zealand wool, Cashmere, Alpaca, Tibetan wool, pure silk in varieties including Mulberry and wild silk, viscose, Tencel, cotton, hemp, jute, and Lincoln wool — individually or blended to the demands of each project. Every fibre is selected for the space it will inhabit: high-traffic contract work calls for different specifications than a bespoke residential commission.
Every piece we produce is natural-dyed where specified, custom-sized, and made to your exact pile height and density requirements. No off-the-shelf compromises. No intermediaries between your brief and the loom.
From Brief
to Your Door.
Design Consultation
We review your brief, space requirements, and specification — then recommend the right weave, fibre, and pile for the project.
Fibre & Dye Selection
Choose from our full range of natural and responsible fibres, plant-dyed or custom colour-matched to your palette.
Spinning & Yarn Preparation
Raw fibres are scoured, spun into yarn, and prepared — each batch checked for consistency before weaving begins.
Hand Weaving in Bhadohi
Your rug is woven in our Bhadohi atelier by master craftspeople — Persian-knotted, Tibetan loop, Moroccan flat, or any technique your design demands.
Washing & Shearing
Each piece is washed, sheared, and embossed by hand — a process that brings out the depth of colour and the texture of the pile.
Finishing & Delivery
Final clipping, binding, and inspection before dispatch. We provide clear delivery timelines at the start of every project so you can plan with confidence.
Tibetan, Persian, Moroccan — every technique available to brief.
